The Journey of Self Discovery
– Zeenat B. Talpur
“Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it. You presume you’re a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire universe. You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself. What you seek is within you, if only you reflect”. – Hazrat Ali (ra)
Every person is unique, born with his/her own talents and abilities but to know these talents we need to discover ourselves. Start a search within you to actually know yourself; your strengths and weaknesses. One of the reasons people get depressed is because they are unaware of themselves, unaware of their talents and limitations. They have no knowledge of what they can achieve and what they lack to achieve. Eloquently stated in the quote: Your sickness is from you but you do not perceive it. We many a times push ourselves to do something we lack the ability to do.Not acknowledging the capabilities we already have in ourselves. That’s because we are unaware of ourselves. Either its unawareness or nonacceptance of what we are.
Our interests are different and the undiscovered talent in us is different. We often follow the crowd while the abilities lie within us wasted not yet discovered. What I have noticed nowadays and would like to mention here that teenagers often do whatever the trend is; whatever being cool demands. Their opinion a reflection of other popular celebrities – Just to go with the flow, not caring whether they can really do that or no. Or what their own God-gifted talents are?
It’s nothing but normal to follow the trend and to reflect the celebrities. But it’s important to do a self-learning of yourself; to accept your limitations and bring out your own talents. Work hard to make the world acknowledge it. Instead of following the crowd strive to be a face in the crowd. That’s better! A person is more worth than he believes himself to be. He is just lost in his own complexes which are all because he is lost to himself. If only he stops and accepts himself the way he is. Embraces himself with his heart and soul. He can do wonders.
There is another informative quote and quite relevant to the topic: “There are four types of people. One, who know and know that they know. Second, who know but don’t know that they know. Third, who don’t know and also know that they don’t know. And fourth, who don’t know and don’t know that they don’t know,” These are the categories of people. Our job is to find out in which one do we belong to? And in quest to know ourselves we should never forget that we are human beings. Accept the way you are so the world accepts you.
I am me in search of me.
