“I think it is possible for ordinary people to choose to be extraordinary”, is not just a quote by an ordinary person, but is by Elon Musk, who is a South African entrepreneur who became a multimillionaire in his late 20s. It is nearly impossible to think about a person becoming multimillionaire this early in his life. The question that arises is, “what exactly was the drive that forced him or many other people to become this much successful?”
If we look around in our society, we could easily point out few people whose lives seem worth living and extraordinary. They have gone beyond the capabilities of normal mainstream people. They have achieved many goals which are just a part of ordinary people’s thoughts. But if we look close at their lives, we would see one thing common, and that is, a choice of not complying to live an ordinary life. They strive for perfection, move away from their comfort zones and go far beyond the limits that are set for them by their society, their families and higher authorities.
This leads us to the point that what exactly are limits set for people by their society and families. It all starts with our childhood and goes till our deaths. When we want to climb the ladders, we are told that we might fall so we should sit on the chair and stay safe. Then moving on in our life, we want to join a football team or a dancing school but we are stopped because these extracurricular activities will affect our grades. Then later on, we want to become an artist and paint, but we are told that it won’t help us in earning money and we are forced to become engineer, doctor, business person or an accountant.
Then, the most importantly when the time comes to go into the field and start a career, we are forced to get married, which throws all our goals and dreams of a professional life into a dustbin. The problem here is not getting married, the problem is that we are getting married to the people from same society who would again force us to stay within illogical boundaries. All these things are happening to us because we have brought into our society, a modern way of education, living and dressing. But we are not accepting the thing that is inevitable after this, which is modern culture. If we are able to bring it on, then surely, we won’t living an ordinary life and would surely attain what we call extraordinary.
It is to the parents, that you should allow your child to choose an extraordinary life for himself. It is to our teachers, that you should allow your students to choose extraordinary careers. It is to our society to stop setting boundaries for us. At last, it is to ourselves to set goals and strive hard to achieve them.
